Supposing, in your imagination or an inner journey, you came to a city of light, what might be needful to enter the city? What key would open the door?
It seems that oneness is a key, if not the key, that turns the lock. As we begin to experience oneness the city walls begin to dissolve, for we have moved into resonance or harmony with its residents. For a city of light itself is the product of the oneness its inhabitants feel with one another. As they built the city their light behaved in increasingly integrated and collaborative ways, and the little bubbles of the personality self or ego, that need their sense of separateness, dissolved.
When this happens the central function of a city of light, of which there are many millions in our Universe, is fulfilled. When the degree of oneness reaches a certain level in the process of creating a city of light, it becomes a location where the Divine Presence may reside. This, then, I see as one definition of a city of light: a shared state of consciousness in which the Divine may be fully present to overlight that community.
We might link this idea with the idea of a Second Coming. Within many traditions, but using here the language of the Christian tradition, we may say that as more and more awaken to know their Christ Light, so together they become a Second Coming, and become a shared consciousness which is able to sustain the Divine Presence and be comfortable with its brilliance.
